About the Instructor and Studio
Tonia Stoney is a native of Charleston, SC. Born into a family of local celebrity singers and musicians, she has been playing the piano since the age of 5. She owns and operates Music Is For Me, LLC as her full-time job.
Tonia has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Youth Christian Counseling Ministries. She has over 30 years of experience teaching beginner and intermediate levels and places her students’ needs above her own.
She is compassionate, easy-going, creative, energetic, and fun. Tonia's passion and love for kids and music are contagious! She strongly believes that music strengthens the learning environment, develops insight, relieves stress, increases self-awareness, as well as maintains self-esteem.
Tonia is an energetic and passionate piano and music theory educator, composer, international best-selling author, and mentor, specializing in teaching children at beginner and intermediate levels. With 30 years of experience, she brings infectious energy to her teaching and genuinely loves working with kids.
She is a member of the Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA), South Carolina Music Teacher Association (SCMTA), and Charleston Music Teacher Association (CMTA) chapter.
Music Is For Me's studio has been inducted into the Business Hall of Fame for Best of Summerville 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 for Best Piano Instructor and has recently earned the Best of North Charleston award for the Music Instructor category.
Tonia is also the recipient of the 2021 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Omicron Rho Omega Chapter's Community Service Award for Arts.
Tonia wants to use music to connect people to themselves and others in a positive way. Her teaching philosophy is to stimulate her students by creating a positive and enthusiastic learning environment. She nurtures and brings awareness of the beauty of music to her students in a way that is within their grasps. Her favorite quote from Berthold Auerbach is, “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
